Gandhi Jayanti

On 02 October 2023, Lakshya Foundation observed Gandhi Jayanti at Z.P. School Lavhali in a manner deeply aligned with the values Mahatma Gandhi stood for—dignity of labour, cleanliness, equality, and self-reliance.

This was not a symbolic gathering.

It was a day of action, reflection, and shared responsibility.

Living Gandhi’s Values, Not Just Remembering Them

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and strengthened by the vision of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the day began with a collective cleanliness drive across the school campus.

Founder and Chairman Mr. Shirish Patil, along with:

  • Principal Mr. Pandurang Shirke
  • Teacher Mrs. Charushila Mahajan
  • Students and school staff

came together to clean the school premises and wash the toilets themselves.

There were no instructions given from a distance.

No hierarchy observed.

Trustees, teachers, and students worked side by side, reinforcing a powerful message:

Cleanliness is not someone else’s responsibility.

Dignity does not depend on role or designation.

For many students, this was a defining moment—seeing adults they respect actively participate in tasks often considered “menial,” quietly breaking long-held social conditioning around discrimination and dependency.

Reflection, Prayer, and Purpose

Following the cleanliness drive, the school gathered for pooja in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi. The atmosphere shifted from physical activity to thoughtful stillness.

The National Anthem was sung with renewed meaning—rooted not just in patriotism, but in responsibility toward one another.

Principal Pandurang Shirke addressed the students, reminding them that education is not only about books, but about values that shape character and society.

Mr. Shirish Patil followed, connecting Gandhi’s teachings to everyday life—urging students to:

  • respect labour,
  • take pride in self-reliance,
  • remain disciplined,
  • and carry forward the responsibility of keeping their surroundings clean and inclusive.

Presence That Reinforces Commitment

The day was marked by strong leadership presence from Lakshya Foundation:

  • Trustees:
    • Mr. Shirish Patil
    • Mr. Rajesh Patil
    • Mrs. Lalita Patil
  • Team Members:
    • Mr. Hitesh Thakare
    • Mr. Mayuresh Thakare
    • Ms. Jigisha Savale

Their participation reaffirmed that Lakshya Foundation’s work goes beyond infrastructure—it is about shaping mindsets and behaviours.

Continuity of Hope

This Gandhi Jayanti followed closely on the heels of the Wheels of Hope initiative. The timing felt appropriate.

Where bicycles restored mobility and access, this day restored values and ownership.

Together, they reflected Lakshya Foundation’s holistic approach:

  • build infrastructure,
  • remove barriers,
  • and nurture character.

Closing Reflection

On 02 October 2023, Z.P. School Lavhali did not just observe Gandhi Jayanti—it practised it.

Through brooms, water, shared effort, and honest conversation, the school became a living classroom of citizenship.

The message carried home by students was simple yet profound:

True progress begins when we respect work, care for shared spaces, and stand equal in responsibility.

For Lakshya Foundation, this day reaffirmed a belief that has guided its journey for years—

education succeeds best when values are taught by example, not instruction.
