Health Check-up Camp at Z.P. School Lavhali
Because Healthy Children Learn Better
Alongside the Republic Day celebration at Z.P. School Lavhali on 26 January 2024, Lakshya Foundation also addressed something fundamental to every child’s education—health and well-being.
For children in remote tribal communities, access to regular health check-ups can be limited. Minor illnesses, nutritional deficiencies, or untreated health concerns can quietly affect attendance, concentration, and learning.
Recognising that education and health cannot be separated, Lakshya Foundation arranged an on-site health check-up for the students of Z.P. School Lavhali.
A Doctor at the School
Dr. Hemant Chavan from Badlapur joined the Lakshya Foundation team at Lavhali and conducted health check-ups for all the students.
Rather than requiring children and their parents to travel elsewhere for an initial assessment, the check-up was conducted directly at the school, making healthcare more accessible to the children.
Each student was examined and basic health concerns were assessed.
A Reassuring Assessment
The overall findings were reassuring.
The students were found to be generally healthy.
A few children, however, showed minor concerns such as:
- fever,
- cold,
- and vitamin deficiencies.
These were not ignored as insignificant.
Lakshya Foundation immediately arranged and sponsored the required medicines for the children who needed them.
More Than a Medical Check-up
For the Foundation, the purpose of the intervention went beyond identifying illness.
A child’s ability to learn is influenced by whether the child is healthy, comfortable, adequately cared for, and able to attend school regularly.
By bringing healthcare into the school environment, the Foundation hoped to strengthen that basic foundation for learning.
The message to the children and their parents was equally important:
Your health matters. Your education matters. And both deserve attention.
Reassurance for Parents
For parents in remote communities, even a minor health concern can create anxiety when access to doctors and medicines is not easy.
The presence of a doctor at the school offered reassurance.
After the examinations, the overall assessment that the children were healthy and safe provided comfort to families, while those requiring minor treatment were supported with medicines.
The intervention therefore combined medical attention with reassurance.
Health as Part of Education
Lakshya Foundation’s work in tribal communities has always viewed education as something broader than classroom instruction.
A child cannot be expected to learn effectively if basic needs are neglected.
The health check-up at Lavhali reinforced this approach:
healthy children are better positioned to attend school, participate confidently, and learn.
Healthcare, therefore, is not separate from educational development.
It is one of its foundations.
Closing Reflection
The health intervention at Z.P. School Lavhali on 26 January 2024 was modest in scale but important in purpose.
All students received a health check-up. Minor concerns were identified and addressed. Medicines were provided where required. Most importantly, parents received reassurance about the well-being of their children.
For Lakshya Foundation, the day reaffirmed a simple principle:
When we work for a child’s future, we must care not only about what the child learns—but also about whether the child is healthy enough to learn.
At Lavhali, health became another step toward educational opportunity.
