When Distance Gives Way to Determination
On 04 November 2025, Lakshya Foundation travelled to Z.P. School Madhapuri, a remote tribal village near Yawal, Maharashtra, on the invitation of Mr. Arun Janjal, the school’s teacher and its strongest pillar of hope.
Reaching Madhapuri itself was a reminder of why such visits matter. From the main road, it takes nearly an hour to reach the village—narrow turns, uneven paths, and long stretches where silence replaces traffic. Distance here is not measured only in kilometres, but in access, opportunity, and attention.
And yet, when we arrived, the welcome erased every trace of fatigue.
A School That Waited With Light in Its Eyes
As the Lakshya Foundation team—Shirish, Lalita, Vaishali, Rajesh, Hitesh, Pravin, along with volunteers Mayuresh, Jigisha, Dheyanshi, and Harsha Patil—entered the school premises, we were met with something unmistakable.
Smiles.
The students’ faces gleamed with excitement.
The teacher’s eyes reflected pride.
This was not the nervous anticipation of visitors arriving—it was the confidence of a school that knows it is moving forward, even if the road to it remains long.
A Teacher Holding the Line Alone
At the centre of this progress stands Mr. Arun Janjal.
In a village where remoteness tests continuity, he has been single-handedly pulling the entire community toward education—not with authority, but with persistence. Day after day, year after year, he has held the school together, keeping learning alive in circumstances that would have quietly defeated many.
His work is not loud.
It is consistent.
And consistency, in places like Madhapuri, becomes leadership.
A Computer That Changed More Than Screens
In January 2025, Lakshya Foundation had donated a computer to Z.P. School Madhapuri to promote digital literacy and ease the administrative and academic load on the teacher.
Seeing it in use today was deeply affirming.
The computer had not become an object on a table—it had become a tool:
- helping students get their first exposure to digital learning,
- enabling record-keeping and planning,
- and quietly reducing the distance between this remote classroom and the wider world.
The goal behind that donation was simple: access should not depend on geography.
Standing there, watching the computer being used with purpose, we knew the goal was being met.
Reclaiming the Playground
One of the most striking changes at Madhapuri lay outside the classroom.
The playground—once a mud pit, earlier used by villagers for sanitation—has been transformed. With the support of a generous villager and the determination of Mr. Janjal, the space has been reclaimed for children.
What was once avoided is now occupied.
What was once undignified is now joyful.
The ground no longer tells a story of neglect—it tells a story of ownership.
Water: The Next Battle
Despite these efforts, challenges remain.
The school continues to face water scarcity. There are ongoing discussions with the Gram Panchayat regarding the provision of a borewell for the school. Hope exists—but uncertainty remains.
As Lakshya Foundation, we made our position clear:
If the system cannot respond in time, we will mobilise.
We will collect funds, gather support, and ensure that water does not become the reason education slows down here.
Learning cannot thrive where basic needs are unmet.
When Energy Finally Found Its Ground
Toward the end of the visit, Lakshya Foundation donated sports equipment to the school—meant to be used on the newly revitalised playground.
The moment the equipment reached the students’ hands, the transformation was instant.
They didn’t walk.
They launched.
Children ran onto the ground with an energy that felt almost elemental—like hundreds of atoms bouncing at once, colliding, laughing, shouting, moving without hesitation. The playground came alive, not gradually, but all at once.
It was impossible not to smile.
Because in that moment, the purpose of education revealed itself clearly—not just in books or screens, but in confidence, movement, and joy.
Leaving With Assurance
As we prepared to leave Madhapuri, the sun dipped low, and the village returned to its quiet rhythm. The road back would again take time.
But we left with certainty.
Z.P. School Madhapuri is not waiting to be saved.
It is already moving forward—with dedication, with community support, and with children ready to run into their future.
Lakshya Foundation’s role here is not to replace that effort—but to stand beside it, strengthen it, and ensure it does not stand alone.
