Z.P. School Shikhrepada
Learning in the Shadow of Risk
The visit to Z.P. School Shikhrepada brought attention to an often overlooked aspect of schooling: physical safety as a prerequisite for learning.
Purpose of the Visit
Lakshya Foundation met teachers and villagers to discuss:
- daily safety concerns,
- sanitation challenges,
- and potential phased interventions.
Key Observations
Teachers spoke openly about:
- snakes and animals entering the school premises due to absence of boundary walls,
- broken flooring causing frequent injuries,
- toilets remaining largely unusable due to lack of water planning and septic systems.
Despite these challenges, the school’s structural integrity remains sound, offering hope that targeted intervention could rapidly improve conditions.
Community Sentiment
Villagers shared that parents often hesitate, especially during monsoons. Yet, they continue sending children because education remains their strongest aspiration.
Reflection
Shikhrepada demonstrated that strategic, focused repair—rather than complete reconstruction—could significantly restore safety and confidence.
This visit helped Lakshya Foundation begin outlining priority-based solutions, respecting both urgency and resource constraints.
