Bringing Natural Light to Nambarwadi School and Aanganwadi

Earlier this year, in May 2016, Lakshya Foundation had successfully brought solar-powered light to every household in Nambarwadi. The joy and convenience that the solar lamps brought to 76 homes was immense. However, while every home had begun to glow after sunset, two vital community spaces—the Z.P. School and the Aanganwadi—still remained in darkness.
These institutions, meant to illuminate the minds of young learners, ironically struggled under dim, shadowed interiors. Even on bright days, the classrooms remained dull and poorly lit. The students often strained their eyes to read, and teachers faced difficulty in conducting lessons effectively. The lack of basic lighting was not merely an infrastructural gap—it was an obstacle to learning and, ultimately, to empowerment.
Lakshya Foundation could not overlook this. For us, education is not just about providing books or teachers—it’s about creating an environment where learning feels natural, hopeful, and dignified. If a child has to fight the darkness just to read a line, it isn’t fair progress.
While our earlier solar lamp model worked well for households, it wasn’t feasible for these community institutions. The school and Aanganwadi were not connected to the electricity grid, which ruled out inverter systems. We began exploring sustainable, low-cost alternatives and identified a practical solution—transparent fiber roof sheets.
The idea was simple yet transformative: by replacing selected portions of the existing cement roof sheets with transparent fiber sheets, we could channel sunlight directly into the rooms during the day. This would require no wiring, no maintenance, and no ongoing power supply.
The implementation was completed on 15th October 2016. Once the fiber sheets were installed, the change was immediate and remarkable. The classrooms and the Aanganwadi that were once gloomy now glowed with natural daylight. The transformation didn’t just brighten walls—it brightened spirits. Teachers could now conduct lessons with ease, and children could read, write, and play without squinting into the shadows.
This small yet meaningful initiative became a powerful symbol of what Lakshya Foundation stands for—practical solutions for real problems, guided by empathy and sustainability. The school and Aanganwadi, once symbols of limitation, now stand as beacons of possibility.
With this, Nambarwadi’s homes, classrooms, and hearts were all finally filled with light—literal and figurative. The project reinforced our belief that when innovation meets intent, even the simplest ideas can transform lives.
