Z.P. School Gawali, District Thane

On 27 July 2023, Lakshya Foundation conducted a detailed survey of Z.P. School Gawali, District Thane.

Key Findings

  • The school originally had two classrooms; one was declared dangerous and abandoned
  • Two new classrooms were constructed, but:
    • Roofs leak during rains
    • Classrooms remain dark due to absence of electrification
    • No lights, fans, or proper fittings
  • Toilets are desolate and unhygienic
  • During monsoons, rainwater logging of 6–7 inches occurs in the playground
    • Students must walk through stagnant water to reach classrooms
  • Classroom walls show heavy dampness, indicating prolonged water seepage
  • No playground equipment, limiting physical development

The team noted that despite new construction, quality and usability remain compromised, highlighting the gap between infrastructure creation and functional learning environments.
