When Safety Becomes a Daily Question
Later the same day, Lakshya Foundation visited Z.P. School Gawali, where the team had previously noted serious concerns related to safety and usability.
This return visit aimed to understand how students and teachers navigate risk on a daily basis.
Purpose of the Visit
The Foundation engaged in extended conversations with:
- teaching staff,
- parents,
- and village representatives.
Rather than merely recording physical damage, the focus was on how infrastructure affects daily behavior.
Conditions on the Ground
Teachers described a difficult reality:
- One classroom had already been abandoned after being declared unsafe.
- Newly constructed rooms still suffer from leakage and darkness.
- Electrical infrastructure remains incomplete, compounded by frequent power cuts.
- During monsoons, rainwater accumulates 6–7 inches deep across the playground, forcing children to walk through stagnant water just to reach class.
Students described arriving with wet uniforms and shoes, starting the school day already uncomfortable.
Community Perspective
Parents expressed worry—not panic, but persistent unease. They want education for their children, yet fear accidents and illness.
The lack of play equipment and usable outdoor space has also reduced physical activity, impacting overall child development.
Reflection
Gawali reinforced an important lesson:
Infrastructure is not just about buildings—it shapes daily habits, confidence, and safety.
The visit helped Lakshya Foundation understand that drainage, electrification, and safe access paths must be addressed together, not separately.
